Hey Hey Hey!
This is going to be my first blog entry here on my website and it is all about K-pop. I hope you will take time to read it, learn from it somehow, and enjoy it.
All of us loves music, right? There are many genres of music that are popular nowadays. One of the most popular genres now is K-Pop and many people are so in love and addicted in this genre, even me is guilty of that too. Not only to their catchy beats and songs, but also to their creativity that they put into their music and videos. And to mention that every K-groups are not just attractive but also, they are very dedicated to their passion and dreams.
What is KPOP?
All the way from South Korea, Korean popular music also known as K-pop started to continuously grow in the Philippines since the increased of Asianovelas that are being aired in the country. Because of the wide popularity of this music genre is most oftentimes the reason why “Hallyu” or Korean wave boom and spread all throughout the different parts of the world.
K-Pop was born in the Philippines indirectly through the Koreanovelas. Because of that K-Pop became more popular and many Koreanovelas started to aired in the television even up to this date. A lot of K-Pop groups/bands and Solo artists begun to rise like 방탄소년단 or BTS, EXO, Seventeen, Super Junior, Big Bang, Got7, Ikon, 2NE1, Girls Generation, Wonder Girls, Black Pink, Red Velvet, Twice and many rookie groups, Solo Artists like Rain, IU, BoA and many more.
Because of the rise of Rain as a singer here in the Philippines, among other reasons, more Filipinos became interested in K-Pop; more Korean singers became known, loved and actually had fan bases here in the country. As the K-Pop community becomes bigger and K-Pop groups rise the fandom increases like ARMY for the fandom of BTS, EXO-L for the fandom of EXO and other groups.
K-Pop fandom is the set of fans of a certain K-group or artists.
Some people may wonder how do these fandom works or how do these fans maintain their fandom?
Fandom is like being in a community with the people who also loves and support your favorite group. Even if the fans could not see their favorite groups or artists in real life or they could not watch them live, they could still help and contribute to the fandom and artist by streaming online, watch them trough different Korean channels such as MBC, SBS, KBS, and Arirang, the only channel that is in English. There is also this website/ app called Vlive where there is subscription and the videos uploaded there are mostly exclusive and not aired in any channel. More than the television, it must be said that the Internet is the K-Pop fan's best friend. There are so many K-Pop blog sites in English made by fans that are updated every day with the latest news, pictures, and videos to cater to the needs of their fellow fans.
In these days Korean culture are becoming part of our lives mostly for the K-Pop fans out there and because of that some K-fans are inspired to impersonate or cover the songs, dance, and performances of their favorite group/band.
Just to share some personal insights since I also mentioned above that I also love K-pop and I have been a fan and K-pop fandom for years.
Hi, my name is Katherine Mendoza, I already wrote some about me on the home page of this website so I will just be going to talk about my love for K-pop here. It all began in the year 2009 or 2010 when I heard “Nobody” by Wonder Girls, I am only 9-10 years old back then when I get LSS to that song and since I also love dancing I tried to practice their dance and teach my friends so that we can dance to it together. At that time, I am still not really into K-pop, but I do enjoy listening to and watching it. As the years passed by my love for K-pop starts to grow like it is to the point that I always watched their music videos and even their reality TV shows, but the first K-pop groups that I really stan was EXO, then I discovered BTS, and other groups and fandoms.
Back then I considered myself as a “multifandom” fan because I stan so many artists, but being in that situation is hard because voting for your favorite group in award shows is not easy, it is like you are being unfair to the other group if you do not vote them. So, I decided to just focus on two groups which is EXO and BTS, but due to some unfortunate events and personal reasons I decided to leave the EXO-L fandom and mainly focused on BTS. Even though I leave the fandom they will still remain in my heart and I am happy that I get the chance to watch them live and meet them before that.
Right now, I am still a fan of BTS and will forever be loyal, I am Jungkook biased, but I love all of them equally. They are just different and because of that they really stand out to me. I feel like I just can’t escape their charms, the music they create and the messages of it, and they are so sweet and humble. I just LOVE them so much. I also been in to their concerts almost three times, the first one was I am only at the venue, but not inside the arena with my friend, then second and third one is I actually get to watch and see them perform live with my own money and that was one of “The most Beautiful Moment of my Life” haha see what I did there?
I feel like this blog is getting longer and maybe boring for you all so I am just going to end it here, because I just can’t stop myself from talking when it comes to BTS.
So yeah, that is all for this blog, I hope this kind of help you and you get to know me just a bit. Thank you for reading!
